ITINERARY DETAILS

In the 19th and 20th century, up until the 1960s, storytellers used to be stationed at various spots along the Singapore riverbank, entertaining the surrounding communities with captivating tales and oratorical prowess. Today, the Singapore River with its three different quays still provides community entertainment but differently – it has transformed into a nightlife destination teeming with diverse dining establishments, laidback pubs and chic rooftop bars. Immense has been the transformation of this tiny island city-state, which boasts no natural resources apart from its people. Yet, there was no shared history or common language at the start. What were the shared aspirations and values that enabled people from diverse backgrounds to defy all odds and create this success story? Hear about these and more as you take a stroll down memory lane in the company of an insightful raconteur on your private walking tour of Singapore River and the Civic and Cultural District. Uncover the incredible stories, mystical legends and urban tales of how Singapore began, and how it became the Singapore that the world knows today. Highlights include: - Learn about the business district and how it has evolved from a commercial square to a dynamic economic hub - Discover the lives of our forefathers when they first arrived in Singapore, and the values that helped them survive, even thrive, in a foreign land - Find out more about the distinct landmarks and structures within the area, and the stories behind them At the end of your private walking tour, you'll gain an appreciation for the values and aspirations that helped Singapore forge its own identity in the globalised world, and recognise how essential these values are for Singapore's future.
