CONTINUE YOUR JOURNEY

Day 1 – Kangerlussuaq

Greenland's main air transport hub and the site of Greenland's largest commercial airport, Kangerlussuaq is a settlement located at the head of the eponymous fjord. The Kangerlussuaq area is also home to Greenland's most diverse terrestrial fauna, including muskoxen, caribou, and gyrfalcons.

The cruise departs about 6pm from Kangerlussuaq. Depending on your flight arrival, you may have a night's stay prior or a hotel room for day use.

Day 2 – Sisimiut

Sisimiut, whose name translates to The People of the Fox Holes, is one of the fastest-growing cities in Greenland. Most residents still live in the colourful wooden houses Greenland is so well known for.

Sisimiut's vast back country offers excellent opportunities for hiking and fishing, and the locals often use sled dogs or snowmobiles to get around their vast mountainous playground during the long winters. Here, you will learn more about the way of life, and also have the opportunity to go on a guided hike or kayaking.

Day 3 – Ilulissat

Producing nearly 20 million tons of ice each day, the Ilulissat Icefjord lives up to its reputation as the birthplace of icebergs. Ilulissat has the third-largest population in Greenland, with approximately 4,500 inhabitants, and according to some estimates, there are as many sled dogs as human beings here!

Similar to Sisimiut, you can enjoy guided activities such as a town walk, hiking and kayaking., or opt to add a scenic helicopter ride into your itinerary.

Day 4 – Evighedsfjord and Evigheds Glacier

One of Greenland's best heli-skiing areas, Evighedsfjord's scale and curves need to be experienced. Just when you think you've reached the end of the fjord, it continues in a different direction! On either side of the fjord, mountains peak in excess of 2,000 metres, adding majesty to the landscape.

The Evigheds Glacier flows from the Greenland Ice Sheet, the second largest ice body in the world after the Antarctic ice sheet, to the west –albeit at a snail's pace. The ice floes that break away from the glacier seem to have infinite shades of blue. Getting up close on a Zodiac boat or kayak will be the best way to see them.

Day 5 – Nuuk

In Nuuk, the bustling capital city of Greenland, you could be forgiven for forgetting you are in a vast and isolated country. Take delight in the country's only traffic lights, roundabouts and university found here, but definitely gain a deeper appreciation of its uniquely Greenlandic character with a walk to uncover the city's gems.

Stop by the Nuuk City Hall to check out the artwork, visit the national museum to admire the legendary Qilakitsoq mummies, and have a taste of local artisanal food and beer.

Day 6 – Uunartoq Island

Several warm springs exist in Greenland, but Uunartoq Island – Uunartoq means "hot" in the local Kalaallisut language – is the only site where the waters form a pool warm enough to bathe in. It's believed even the Norse settlers in Greenland travelled here back in the days to soak!

The picturesque series of steaming pools are backed by some of the best scenery Greenland has to offer. Think mega icebergs drifting along fjord waters and cloud-piercing mountains, and even tundra blooms in the summer months.

Day 7 – Tassermiut Fjord and Prince Christian Sound

Considered one of the 10 Wonders of the Arctic, Tassermiut Fjord is a 70-kilometre incision into the pristine wilderness of south-western Greenland. You'll witness a spectacular panorama of jagged peaks perched atop steep-sided mountains, interspersed with U-shaped side valleys and moraines – all clear indications of glacial action.

Over at Prince Christian Sound, you'll come face to face with one of the top highlights on this voyage. This majestic and spectacular fiord gives off Viking era feels, captivating you with an arresting beauty and serenity that seems to bring time to a standstill.

Day 8 – Lindenow Fjord

The relatively unexplored east coast of Greenland has some of the most dramatic fjord scenery in the world, and one example is the stunning Lindenow Fjord, which is named after Danish navy admiral Godske Lindenow.

Towering peaks and steep mountainsides line the fjord and at first glance appear like ramparts of an impenetrable fortress. Streams of ice cascade down the starkly-contrasting dark rock, like cold fingers clinging on to black marble.

Day 9 – At sea

Grab the opportunity to relax and unwind in your suite or in the Observation Lounge, or indulge in a spa session, work out at the fitness gym or even indulge in some retail therapy.

Day 10 – At sea

Relax and catch up with what you've been meaning to do. You may also like to check out the Connoisseur's Corner to check out the fine wines and spirits, or the cigar collection.

Day 11 – Scoresby Sund

The largest and longest fjord system in the world, Scoresby Sund is a labyrinth of islands, fjords and ice that boggles the mind at every turn. The area is incredibly rich in Arctic wildlife, home to polar bears, musk oxen, Arctic foxes and a wealth of marine life including whales, belugas, narwhals, walrus and seals. There are a number of sea bird species such as King Eiders, Atlantic Puffinsand migratory geese.

Day 12 – Scoresby Sund

Continue to relax and soak in the charm of Scoresby Sund. Its grassy waters have an incredibly soothing effect on the soul, and the vast icebergs that occasionally pop into view make you contemplate the grandeur of Mother Nature.

Set off on a Zodiac excursion for an invigorating discovery of what the area has to offer.

Day 13 – Scoresby Sund

Your final day at Scoresby Sund is yet another opportunity to take in the poetic landscape, and catch sight of Arctic wildlife.

The staggering geological variation means no two mountain views are the same, some black, layers and covered with permanent ice, while others are jagged, pinnacled cliffs sweeping out to the fjord, crowned with ice that never melts.

Day 14 – Ittoqqortoormiit

Make your way to the only settlement in Scoresby Sund today. Ittoqqortoormiit, home to about 460 inhabitants, is one of Greenland's most isolated settlements; their closest neighbours actually live in Iceland!

A highlight on a walkabout is the museum housed in the former village shop. Here, you can see what a typical hunter's home from the 1960s looked like.

Day 15 – At sea

Slow down and unwind in your suite with a book, or take the opportunity to make use of the facilities on board. Your butler may be able to suggest some ideas and provide advice based on the on-board availability.

Day 16 – Reykjavik

Arrive into Reykjavik in the morning. Check into your hotel and explore the capital of the Land of Ice and Fire at your leisure.

Boasting a cool mix of striking architecture, creative kitchens, hip bars and crisp air, Reykjavik easily makes a lasting impression on visitors. Walk in the crusts between continents, feel the spray from bursts of geysers and witness the enduring power of Iceland’s massive waterfalls. Whether you want to sizzle away in the earth-heated geothermal pools, or hike to your heart’s content, you can do it all here.
